Is it possible to configure mode hooks using customize? For example, if I have a plugin and I want to enable it for a certain mode, can I do that with customize?

If not, then I will need to write elisp inside my .emacs file. What is the preferred "separation" for what I should write elisp for vs what I should use customize for? It's apparent I cannot use customize for everything.

  • Mode hooks are generally not user options, which means that you cannot change them using Customize. Beyond that, try to show exactly what you want to accomplish. – Drew Feb 5 '18 at 3:10
  • How about M-x customize-option emacs-lisp-mode-hook? If the hook is not available via customize-option, you can use add-hook, for more info, see (emacs) Hooks. – xuchunyang Feb 5 '18 at 4:43
