I'm using a custom keyboard mapping in which I have Greek letters and various mathematical symbols that I frequently use (∫,∂, ecc). Of course I know the possibility to insert them directly in tex file (using utf8x in LaTeX or directly XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX). The main issue is that XeLaTeX and LuaLaTeX are not mainstream and very often collaborators as well as scientific journal do not accept. Also the non-standard encoding, like utf8x are no welcome, generally. So I was looking something like that:

  1. I type α for instance in emacs;
  2. emacs show me α but write in the file \alpha;
  3. viceversa when I open a file in which there is \alpha, emacs show me α

using this file will become more readable. I think that using emacs it must be possible. Can you help me?
