I start emacs from the prelude project but found its mode line annoying,

-UU-:----F1 gtd.org All of 684 (19,0) (Org FlyC- company ivy EditorConfig ws Projectile[-] super-save Pre WK (*) Abbrev) [Learn to use pomodoro] 8:00PM 1.74 Mail ---------------

I want to display the current time on the modeline according to EmacsWiki: Display Time

it works but display it far to the right. enter image description here

How could I display the time on the left and eliminate the unnecessary info like (Org FlyC- company ivy EditorConfig ws Projectile[-] super-save Pre WK (*) Abbrev)

There are too many variations and packages that affect the mode-line to write-up an answer (without opening a "Pandora's Box"). Here is a link to my favorite blog that I used a few years ago to start me on my quest to customize and understand components of the mode-line: amitp.blogspot.com/2011/08/emacs-custom-mode-line.html Here is a quick example to get you started: (setq mode-line-format '((:eval (propertize (format-time-string "%m/%d/%Y") 'face '(:foreground "green"))))) – lawlist Dec 31 '18 at 14:53
