I have been using GNU Emacs running on Fedora Linux, with the emacs vm (View Mail) package, to read mail for a long time now. But as of a couple of days ago, a problem has developed.

Whenever I try to read a message that has inline HTML, I get the error msg Inline text/html by emacs-w3m display failed: (wrong-type-argument stringp nil) and the text of the msg is presented in HTML format.

This is a recent problem. The main thing that has changed is that we've upgraded from Fedora 28 to Fedora 29.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Many thanks!

  • I'm assuming the new release of Fedora has a new release of GNU Emacs. Have you tried updating vm and recompiling everything? I don't know whether it's provided via the system package manager or you're using some Emacs solution. It might also be the case that something got deprecated, and your init file still has these deprecated customizations. – DoMiNeLa10 Jan 7 at 22:32
