I am a novice at coding in Emacs (and in general), but I have been using Org Mode in Aquamacs with some success. I'd like to to start using Spacemacs. I've got Spacemacs up and running using the following that was suggested in another thread:

git clone https://github.com/syl20bnr/spacemacs ~/.emacs.d/spacemacs

and by placing this code in my ~/emacs file:

(setq spacemacs-start-directory "~/.emacs.d/spacemacs/")
(load-file (concat spacemacs-start-directory "init.el"))

However, when I now attempt to customize any org mode variables in Spacemacs, I encounter the following error:

Cannot save customizations, init file not fully loaded.

When I open the ~/emacs.d/spacemacs directory, I do indeed find the init.el file there.

This has led me on a quest to understand where Spacemacs is trying to write to when I customize a variable. Despite my effort, I have not been able to locate this file or figure out a way to point Spacemacs to any customization file.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get Spacemacs to load a customization file that I already have from Aquamacs? Or does anyone have any idea why Spacemacs considers the above init.el file not fully loaded? Thanks!
