I have buffer called *mydashboard* which is simply an org file.

I want to set the left margin of this buffer to 20 chars. I am planning to use this as my dashboard where I can pin my links to other files/projects etc.

I don't want this margin settings to affect any other buffers. Googling brought up set-window-margins , left-margin-width but not sure how to put them together to set the margin only for that *mydashboard* buffer.

If we type C-h v (aka M-x describe-variable) and look-up left-margin-width, we see that it is a buffer-local variable. Setting that variable with setq in the desired buffer will not affect other buffers. Window margins, affect the window, and would affect other buffers later displayed in the same window -- so, it may need to be modified (if so desired) when switching to different buffers within that same window. gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/elisp/… – lawlist Aug 23 '19 at 6:40
