I recently installed DOOM Emacs. I see that company-mode and company-files are installed, but I'm having trouble making them work. Regular auto-completion works on Elisp files (So for example, if I type set, I get suggested setq and setf, among other things). I see that the "alist" for company-backend-alist contains several backends that are loaded on prog and text modes, so I'm thinking of adding company-files to this variable.

This alist variable is in a file generated by doom sync, which suggests I shouldn't modify it.

If I manually change the alist variable, add the company-files symbol to the prog-mode part of this alist, then reload the file, I get file completion. My question is, what is the suggested way of adding a backend to the company-backend-alist?
