How to set leader-key-like chord sequence in Evil mode?

Question

I am using Spacemacs with evil mode and this works:

(define-key evil-normal-state-map (kbd "m") 'set-input-method)

However, I would like to use something like this:

(define-key evil-normal-state-map (kbd "m o") 'set-input-method)

to be able to type m and then o, or even more keys in sequence to get the chord effect and trigger the function I want.

However (kbd "m o") is not working.

How to make m o chord work in evil mode in Spacemacs?
