Aug 18 at 14:53 comment added Drew Yes, but undefined behavior is a cover - means only that the behavior isn't defined. A crash means a bug IMO, even when the behavior for some operation is labeled as undefined. But sometimes the cause of a crash might not be feasible to try to discover and fix.
Aug 18 at 3:23 comment added shynur @Drew: <gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/elisp/Mutability.html>: “Some Lisp objects should never change” and “For example, although cons and (symbol-name 'cons) both yield strings that should not be changed”. ELisp only needs to comply with what is described in the document; users need to be responsible for the irregular code they write, just like UB in the C language.
Aug 18 at 1:25 comment added Drew @shynur: You say your recipe isn't an Emacs bug, but you don't say why you think that. I disagree, and Emacs maintainers have repeatedly said just what I said: a crash always indicates the presence of an Emacs bug. If you can crash Emacs using Lisp code then please report that recipe as an Emacs bug.
Aug 17 at 8:30 comment added shynur @Drew: “A crash always represents an Emacs bug.” — It may also be because the user has written non-standard code. See <emacs.stackexchange.com/a/81640>.

Aug 22, 2017 at 12:54 comment added npostavs Note: this was filed as Bug#25221. It's not a crash, it's a suspend, and is probably a bug in the WSL/windows bash platform (which is still in beta, afaik).

Mar 14, 2017 at 7:29 comment added Babu Srinivasan Emacs works fine until you run list-packages. After this if you type U or g or any key, the emacs process gets suspended and you get bash shell prompt.

Dec 15, 2016 at 23:15 comment added Fiend394 How can I send a bug report using one computer for another? The bug report seems to cause this particular brand of crashing too. What do I need to include for this bug report to be useful?
Dec 13, 2016 at 20:52 comment added Drew A crash always represents an Emacs bug. Please report it, providing as much info as you can: M-x report-emacs-bug.
